Last blog – almost a week ago. Feels like longer!
As Emily & Alan packed their car on Wednesday to continue on their quest to travel as many miles by car as humanly possible with a 1 1/2 year old in 10 days (I think they drove something like 2400 miles!), our friendly ex-Navy floor guy and his friendly ex-Navy floor friend drove up to replace all of the floors in our kitchen and laundry room. And did they ever do those floors. They did the floors in the kitchen for about 11 hours the first day. I wanted to lose my mind. Robert and I decided that we can TOTALLY see why people have marital strife and anxiety while contracting home improvements! They arrived bright and early Thursday morning, and I tried to keep the kids out of the house as much as possible. It was no easy task, but somehow we made it. The floors are now replaced with nice wood laminate, with beautiful tile in the laundry room. No more ugly moldy white linoleum covering the huge crack in the foundation, now there’s a nice thick layer between us and the crack! Hallelujiah! Let’s pray that the new floors don’t separate between now and March 1st. After that, it’s not our problem!
Friday morning we woke up early and headed up to NC! It is the first trip in our new minivan, and I must say it was a tremendously easier trip! Space makes a huge difference, and a comfortable ride makes me happy too. We made it in about 7 1/2 hours, so that’s a slight improvement, although we only stopped once. My sister came into town on Friday afternoon with Kevin, so we loved having everyone there for the weekend.
Saturday morning we tried to help my dad rig up some pieces to the new pergola he is putting in. It didn’t work, but he and Kevin figured out another way to get the columns on.

Hooray for teamwork. Miles has enjoyed playing in the yard SO much. I think his favorite part was “helping” Papa in the garden, and carrying the compost out.

I

was able to go visit Allison, Matt and Alden on Saturday afternoon – the last visit before Hudson’s arrival! They were fantastic and Miles and Alden had a good time playing together (we left Lydia with Nina).

Sunday we stopped by Hope & Andy’s to see them and of course little Miss Savannah! She is such a sweet little doll. I was terrified the entire time my kids were going to destroy something (or everything) in Hope and Andy’s house! They did only minor damage, and we managed to get the “babies” together to take some pictures. Savannah is getting so big, I could just squeeze her!

We traveled to Gastonia yesterday to spend some time with Mimi and B-Pop. Miles took a little bit to warm up but he’s totally in his element now, and has thorougly enjoyed playing with all of the matchbox cars Marie inherited from Mama B & Grandaddy’s house, and Lydia has enjoyed all of the Barbie stuff. As always they’re both loving the little people that their daddy used to play with, Miles especially loves the cars and is loving putting the people in the cars and pushing them around. He’s a rascal, and I think Bob and Marie have enjoyed seeing all of his tricks (none of which involve talking). Bob has been giving us a running dialogue of his translation of what the different grunts mean. He’s a pretty good translator. He’s doing a great job of adjusting to the kid friendlier schedule (read: he has to eat later b/c of the kids’ bedtime).

Today I went out with a realtor for the first time, and looked at a slew of new construction and a few newer homes in the greater Charlotte area. I think we’ve narrowed down our focus to one specific area, and there is one builder that I really love. I liked our realtor a lot, too, so that was an added perk. We should have a better idea of where everything is now, locationwise, which is also helpful. We’re exciiiiited to get going on the home search, and move! Yahoo for moving home!

Tonight Robert called me and said he had just watched “Who Killed the Electric Car”. He totally thinks it was George Bush, and that electric is the way to go. Haha! Just kidding! However, the fact that he watched it is HUGE! It shows that O’Reilley and those other clowns at Fox News haven’t done too much damage over the past few years.
