Lydia has been “reading” us her Clifford Valentine’s Day book – word for word. She misses maybe 5-7 words in the entire book. This is before bed. Then she’ll say her “Now I Lay Me” prayers, and then she’ll say The Lord’s Prayer, in it’s entirety, without us helping. She’s a rockstar.

I have started taking Miles’ paci when he gets out of the bed – trying to limit it to bed and the car as much as possible, or at least head in that direction. He has started handing it to me after I pick him up, instead of me taking it from him. He will also pat me on the back with his sweet little hands. I always pat him on the back when I get him out of the crib, and I guess he has figured this out.

Last night we had pictures taken at the beach. We got dinner for the kids on the way out, and when Miles was finished, I handed him the napkin and told him to wipe his mouth…. AND HE DID! He is also a rockstar. My kids are awesome.

One of the things about 3 1/2 that drives me insane – Lydia WILL NOT let me help her, she tells me I can do it! I can do it! Then, when she can’t do it herself she starts throwing a whiny fit for me to help her.

This morning I gave Lydia her breakfast and her cup – I had a decision, I could give her her plastic cup, or give her her sigg (which, miracle upon miracles was clean). We only have one sigg per kid, and I actually think Miles’ is still in NC. Anyway, I started thinking about Lydia and the sippy as a whole. She really can drink from a regular cup, she IS 3 1/2 (the fact that she freaks out if she gets a drop of water on her clothes really is something we need to work on anyway). But, in the interest of avoiding plastics, do I give her plastic cups? Wait, does my beloved Corelle make cups? Not cups in the traditional sense, but they do make mugs. So I think Lydia is going to start drinking out of a mug. I love it! So I started browsing vintage Corelle online – my grandma had the Spring Garden/Crazy Daisy collection – I was trying to figure out what the name of her pattern was- and I started looking at all of the pieces she had. Corelle just makes so much sense. The nesting bowls! The mixing bowls! The bake sets! The casseroles! Oh my! It made me a little nostalgic to see all of the pieces that we grew up eating off of, and all of the pieces grandma would bring beans over to our house in, or dishes to family reunions. I also saw the a few that mom had (Blue Cornflower and Spice of Life). There’s an outlet in St. Augustine that I might hit up – just see what kinds of goods they have. However, there is an abundance of old patterns online. Some of them are super retro, Robert might put up a fuss, but it’s another opportunity to be a little bit green, buying used instead of new. And you know how Robert is into going green (ha ha). He actually appreciates the functionality of Corelle. I think if I was diligent about yard sale-ing I probably would find everything I wanted. It sure isn’t fancy, at all. But who ever said I was a fancy person to begin with. I will admit it, I love the stuff.

In other news, Lydia’s pullup is staying dry most nights. I think we’ve only had to pull out one new one in the last week – she is almost at a point where she’ll start wearing panties at night, and the potty training will be complete. Praise the LORD!

Canada to Declare BPA Toxic and Ban Baby Bottles (click to link to article) – maybe the US will follow suit… whichever candidate says they’ll get rid of BPA in plastics gets my vote. Blue OR Red. :)
