Yesterday was Miles’s 5 month birthday. Today I was looking through pictures, and found some that are somewhat comparable. I guess they do favor one another, but I think they look so different from one another.

We had such a great time this weekend. We went to Lake Whitney, about an hour and a half south of Dallas, with our church friends. We have been having a rainy spell lately, so it poured rain the entire way there, and Miles was a WRECK, and traffic was bad… it ended up taking us 3 hours. So maybe the trip down was not wonderful… It rained all night Friday night, then until about noon on Saturday, but then the glorious sun came out, and we were able to play outside all afternoon and evening. One of the couples had a boat, so we got to go out on the boat. Lydia LOVED it. Rain moved in Saturday night, and it rained all morning Sunday morning. Then the sun came back out again, and we had a great afternoon again! Robert went out on the boat again and skiied, and Lydia went and hung out with Kristina and Andrea, and ended up taking a nap. It started raining that evening, but we braved it, and ended up just sitting under the umbrellas. We just had so much fun. We are going to miss our friends so much. We wish we could pack them all up and take them with us. So you guys will have to come visit!!!!

Today we recovered. Even though we had a great time, it was not a restful weekend. So the kids and I took it easy and stayed around home today. We did venture out to Babies R Us, aka “the potty store”, to let Lydia pick out a potty that she was excited about. I don’t know what was going on with the last blog, but she has started refusing the potty. So I am trying to back off, and will try to get her excited about it again soon. We’ll see.
In other news, Miles is sitting up on his own! It’s so exciting!

The update

I figured I should do some blogging. Both of the kids are asleep, hallelujiah, and I got a decent night sleep last night, hallelujiah. I, therefore, am awake.

Sunday morning we skipped church (bad, I know…) and played all morning, then I took Lydia to lunch alone. It was so much fun to have a girls brunch. She had fun, but I think I had more fun.

We (finally) visited Ft. Worth on Sunday. It was great fun! They do a “cattle drive” each day at 4:00, so we got to see that – very cool. They also had tons of great resturants and neat shops at the stockyards. Lydia loved seeing the animals, and it was an overall great family outing.

Monday started out ROUGH – I was not in a great mood, and both kids woke up screaming. It was awful. I felt like I had gotten run over by a truck. Not to mention the dog had kept me up for part of the night because he was sick. At one point I let him out and he didn’t come back, and he didn’t come back, and he didn’t come back, and I was so sure he had gone out and crawled under a bush and died or something. But he came back. And I changed his food the next day and he seems to be doing MUCH better now. Anyway, we’ll just write Monday off as the disaster as it was, and move on. I think it was in the Dallas air because Christy had a rough day, Kerri had a rough day, and Emily M. also had a rough day (per Kerri).
As it always goes, Tuesday was a peach. It was great! I made some turkey bacon and smoothies in the morning, and it was all very delish. I also made gazpacho, which we are still enjoying. Christy and crew came over for a morning playdate, and stayed until nap time. My kids slept, woke up happy, and we played all afternoon.
Today we made more turkey bacon and smoothies, and also made some pumpkin bread. We’re trying to use up all of the canned goods and other items in our house before I leave with the kids. It is all very tasty, and Lydia just loves pumpkin bread, so everybody is happy. We met Kerri and Nathan at their house in Dallas and went to the Dallas Arboretum. It was like a little slice of heaven, it was GORGEOUS. It was so much fun to walk around and to hang out with Kerri of course. And to see all of the flowers, and to get some fresh air was wonderful. We had a blast, and highly recommend it!

We started potty training this week (again, I know, but this time it’s for real). It’s going okay, I am trying the whole stickers on a sheet of paper, and we busted out the M&Ms yesterday. I had initially hoped it would happen quickly, but I am going to just resign myself to the fact that it won’t be quick, and not stress myself out over it. I have dreaded it since Lydia was born, so I need to just ease myself AND her into it.

Last night the mommies got an evening pass from mommyhood, and got to go out and act like college kids again. it was funny because when we were going out, we talked about how we felt like we were forgetting something (like our children!). We went out and had dinner at Abuelos – and then went back to Sherlock’s and hung out and danced. It was great fun! I always have fun with Christy though, so no surprise there.
Tonight, Robert gave Lydia a bath and washed/dried her hair. When I came in to see what was going on, this is what I found.

Last Day of School!

Today was Lydia’s last day of school. It’s very sad for me, or for my sanity, should I say. But it is also sad because Lydia just loved school this year, and her teachers. I can only hope and pray that her teachers next year are half as nice as her teachers this year. In celebration of the last day of school, one of her friends in class gave her a nice little memento, in the form of a bite. It also makes me realize how close we are to the end of the Texas leg of our adventure.
Robert worked from home today, which was nice. He’s had to work late 3 days this week, so I don’t feel like we’ve seen him at all. Lydia had a great time getting thrown around this afternoon. She loves her daddy!

This has been a rough few days. ROUGH. Probably the worst since I acquired 2 children. Lydia is recovering from her illnesses. Miles has been hoarse and not sleeping for the last few days. I have been giving him teething tablets, but I think he also has what I had, or am recovering from, which is just a very sore throat and some yucky in the back of the throat. Anyway, it has apparently helped him to feel better to sleep close to mommy and daddy, so he’s been sacking out with us the last 2 nights. It was out of complete and utter desperation. I was about to go out of my brain crazy from lack of sleep and children that seemed to take turns screaming for about 3 days (and nights) straight.

So now we’re recovering. And better days are on the horizon. This morning we went to Frisco Commons Park, which is absolutely fabulous. Then we had breakfast/lunch at Ikea, and walked around for a little while. It made me remember why I like hanging out with my children, so that was good, an answer to my prayers. It really has been an awful week.

I am waiting not so patiently for my new camera to be delivered this afternoon. It is ON the truck right now, so hopefully Mr. FedEx will arrive shortly. Then you will be bombarded by pictures of probably everything under the sun. Nothing out of the ordinary, but hopefully these pictures will be crisp, clear and colorful, thanks to the new cam. SO EXCITED!

Don’t worry, I haven’t gotten any sleep yet. Just in case anyone was wondering. The kids were up about every 45 minutes last night, except a stint from midnight to about 2:45. So it was the worst night of the last three.

In other news, Lydia has herpangina, which is the mouth portion of hand/foot/mouth. She also has the beginnings of an ear infection. She actually told me that her ear was hurting (first time to identify pain!) right before the dr. came in so he gave us a prescription for Amoxicillin. Hopefully that will help the ears start feeling better.

I took some more pictures with Christy’s fun little camera today. Here are a few highlights. You can see Miles sucking on his lip.

To all of my favorite mothers out there!
We had our friends over last night for a little gathering. It was a lot of fun, and we had a great turnout.

Lydia’s eye was looking a little suspicious all day yesterday, swollen and kind of red, so I had been keeping a close eye on it all day. About 5:30 she started running a fever. I was concerned because there were several babies running around…. I didn’t take her temp, but gave her some ibuprofen and put her to bed. Miles had a hard time settling, but finally went to sleep for good around 11 (however, he was up and down from about 3am on, which also happened on Friday night – wow, am I tired). I handed Miles over to Robert at 6:30, we gave Lydia some ibuprofen and I went back to sleep. When I got up around 9:30, her fever was around 103, and spiked up to 104+ within a little while. We called the dr. and they said to just continue giving her ibuprofen, and to take her to the ER if it went above 105 or any other weird things happen. Her fever just broke, after a staggered dose of both ibuprofen and aceteminophen. We’ll be taking her into the dr. tomorrow I believe.
My sweet children and husband got me a new camera for Mother’s Day – I am SO excited to get it! Hopefully it will come quickly. Many thanks to my dear sweet Christy for letting me using her camera last night.
